Engraved quote: "Do you mortify? Do you make it your daily work? Be always at it whilst you live; cease not a day from this work; be killing sin or it will be killing you."
Who was John Owen?
John Owen (1616-1683) was an English Puritan pastor and theologian who served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford. The quote comes from his 1656 book Of the Mortification of Sin in Believers, a short work on putting sin to death that is still widely read.
